Kick off SOGO’s season with an afternoon of excitement, beauty, and dazzling virtuosity! The Conservatory Orchestra opens with Leonard Bernstein’s Overture to Candide, a fast-paced audience favorite, before slowing the pace with the warmth and charm of Edward Elgar’s The Wand of Youth, from Suite No. 1. Throughout the season, we’ll be celebrating SOGO musicians and alumni, beginning with senior Campbell Patterson, bass, as soloist in the second movement of Koussevitsky’s Double Bass Concerto. The concert concludes with Alberto Ginastera’s exhilarating “Malambo” from Estancia, a thrilling musical depiction of the high-energy dance of the Argentine gauchos.
