The bulk of auditions are held in May of each academic year for placement in the fall and throughout the season where there are openings. All current members seeking to participate in the next year must audition for placement. Each musician is asked to perform a solo or etude of their choice and those in 9th grade and above must prepare the audition excerpt below (please be sure to download). Students are encouraged to work with their private instructor to determine appropriate audition material for the solo or etude. The live audition will conclude with a sight reading piece to determine each musician’s skill in counting, key signature, technique, and musicianship.

After the audition, musicians are given a theory examination that will last approximately 20 minutes. (See theory test on this page. elementary page 1, middle school pages 1 & 2, high school and college age entire test)

There is a $45.00 non-refundable audition fee due at the time of the audition. Full tuition is due at the time of placement or within the first week to allow time to establish a payment plan or seek financial assistance. Tuition can be paid by cash, check or credit card.

More information on tuition, scholarships, student expectations, concert dress, music and other related information can be found in the Musician’s Handbook. If you have any other questions about auditions, please contact SOGO.

Audition appointments are being scheduled for the 2018-2019 season by calling 360.352.1438.
