Join SOGO’s Prelude Strings (1-2 years experience)
Student Orchestras of Greater Olympia (SOGO) is providing a free* after-school program for eight weeks, this fall. The class will be taught by Rebecca Gage. Ms. Gage has over 20 years of successful teaching experience (beginning-high school) and is currently an orchestra teacher with the North Thurston School District.
Enrollment is open to any elementary or middle school string player with one or two years of experience. If your school orchestra teacher has given you this handout, they believe this would be a great experience for you.
Prelude Strings will focus on making young musicians successful in the following areas:
● Hand position
● Bow technique
● Exploration of more advanced key signatures
● Growing to understand more advanced rhythmic figures
● Sight reading
● A better understanding of the role of each instrument in the orchestra
● Preparation to succeed in a full orchestra setting
● Introduction to standard orchestral literature
● Learning to follow a conductor
● Concert and rehearsal etiquette
When & Where: Prelude Strings will be held on Mondays beginning September 17 from 5:30-6:30 PM at Washington Middle School – 3100 Cain Road SE, Olympia, WA 98501
Rehearsal Calendar: September 17, 24, October 1, 8, 15, 22, 29, and November 5
Performance: There will be a half hour program for parents, family, and friends after class on Monday, November 5 held in the WMS cafeteria at 6:30 PM.
*Enrollment: There is a $20 registration fee collected at the first class.
