Join us for some fun at the SOGO Summer Music Monday – Friday, July 6-10, 2020.

Important information! Please read carefully.

After you have signed up for SOGO Summer Music class(es) through the Google Form you will have an email confirmation of classes for which you enrolled and a separate browser window will open that will note the Zoom information for Summer Music. The teacher of each class for which you register will send you the class materials by Sunday, July 5.

We will also resend the Zoom information on Sunday, July 5.

PLEASE NOTE: The student’s Zoom “screen name” must be the student’s name or an identifiable family member’s name.

9:00 – 9:25 a.m.
001 –  String Class I – Rydholm
String players who have completed at least one year of orchestra class or private lessons will develop fundamentals and techniques through exciting music in three different styles: Fiddle, Classical, and Jazz.
Materials: Instrument (Music provided)

9:30 – 9:55 a.m.
002 – String Class II – Rydholm
String players who have completed two to five years of orchestra class or private lessons will develop even more fundamentals and techniques through unforgettable music in four different styles: Gypsy, Jazz, Fiddle, and Classical
Materials: Instrument (Music provided)

10:00 – 10:25 a.m.
003 – Woodwind Class – Marin and Aliment
Intermediate woodwind players (flute or clarinet) who have had two or three years of band class* or private instruction will develop fundamentals, technique, and performance skills through fun warm-ups and music in a variety of styles (jazz, classical, movie) and ensemble materials.
Materials: Instrument. Music will be provided.

10:30 – 10:55 a.m.
004 – Brass Class – Craig, Ward, and Allison
Intermediate brass players (trumpet, horn, trombone, euphonium, or tuba)  who have had two or three years of band class* or private instruction will develop fundamentals, technique, and performance skills through fun warm-ups and music in a variety of styles (jazz, classical, movie) and ensemble materials.
Materials: Instrument. Music will be provided.

11:00 – 11:25 a.m.
005 – Bucket Band (grades 5- 9, no experience needed) Craig
Students learn basic rhythm reading, cadences, hand/stick position, and a variety of sticking techniques used on …yes…a bucket! More fun than a bucket of monkeys!
Materials: “Instrument” – 5-gallon plastic bucket and 2B (or similar) drumsticks. (Music provided)

11:30 – 11:55 a.m.
006 – Music Theory – A “Must” Class (grades 6-9 or by permission) Ward
Learn to put a name to the chords, scales, and intervals you are playing.  Every music student should take this class to make their musical playing experience more meaningful.
Materials:  Provided

12:00 – 12:25 p.m.
007 – Composing on the Computer (grades 6-8 Music Theory 005 required or by permission) Ward
Do you have a melody running through your head and would like to share it with others?  This class will explore the basics of melody and harmony, so you can begin to develop your own style.
Materials:  Students will need to sign up for a free account with MuseScore3.4.2
