What could be more fun than hearing holiday tunes that will warm your heart and tickle your funny-bone?  Local composer Mark Thome has provided us with a new arrangement of There’s No Place Like Home for the Holidays that will feature SOGO trumpeter Megan Wakefield as a vocal soloist and a setting of ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas featuring Olympia Mayor Selby as narrator.  Local vocalists, Elliot Weeks and Anna Garrett, who have longtime ties with SOGO Ho Ho, will also be sharing their craft with the audience on We’ve Got Our Love to Keep Us Warm and Santa Baby.  Of course, there will be terrific brass playing on holiday favorites from Hanukkah and Christmas to delight your ears, as well.  And, don’t forget, there is always a sing-along to get everyone in the holiday spirit. There is much more, so come and join us for this holiday treat and bring all your family and friends!

After 18 years with the Student Orchestras of Greater Olympia, Maestro John Welsh will be retiring the baton. Welsh has been with the organization since the beginning.  Hailing from the East Coast, Welsh brought a wealth of experience, leadership, and direction to the members of SOGO.

This 2017-2018 season we celebrate his retirement with a walk-through memory lane as Maestro Welsh conducts some of his most beloved symphonic works and features many of his favorite soloists.
